People continue to feel safe in their own neighborhoods. In 2003,
69% of respondents are very satisfied with the safety they feel in their
neighborhoods, compared with to 64% in 2002.
Two in three people are
very satisfied with the safety afforded them in their communities in
both 2002 and 2003.
Summary
State residents continue to sense a high level of personal safety and
security in their communities, unchanged from a year ago, in spite of
terrorist threats and the ongoing conflict in Iraq. Although the nation
continues to be on a terrorist alert level ranging between yellow and
orange, people in Wisconsin express a very high level of comfort with
their safety in neighborhoods and communities throughout the state.
Among all measures of satisfaction with quality-of-life criteria,
personal safety continues to be the highest – in the 90th percentile –
and strongest – in the 66th percentile.
