Personal Safety - Fall
2003
|
Personal safety and security continue to be among the
most positive quality of life indicators. Over the past year, the vast
majority of respondents have reported that they are satisfied with their
own sense of safety. Although the proportion of people reporting that
they are very satisfied with their sense of personal safety in their
neighborhoods has dropped from 70% to 56%, overall satisfaction remains
at the 93% level. |

Reinforcing this trend, 84% believe that safety in their
communities will either improve (18%) or remain the same (66%). |

Summary
Over
the past year, a great many quality of life indicators have fluctuated,
but our respondents’ sense of personal safety at home has remained
relatively stable and strongly positive. Although we are seeing a drop
in the number of people who are very satisfied with safety and security
in their communities, it remains to be seen whether this is a blip or a
trend. It is significant that satisfaction is high in all demographic
categories. |
